Glycerine

Human studies support glycerin as a humectant that improves hydration and barrier function; one 24-hour assessor-blinded study used glycerin with hyaluronic acid and showed improved hydration and barrier function after one application. (PMC)

Sources

Sodium Hyaluronate

Topical HA studies support improved hydration, plumpness, elasticity, and facial skin quality. (PMC)

Sources

Aloe Vera

Human data supports aloe gel materials for short-term hydration and anti-erythema effects; reviews also link aloe to skin moisture retention and erythema reduction. (PMC)

Source

Chamomile Extract 1%

Literature reviews identify comparative clinical studies using chamomile in erythema, eczema-like lesions and irritation contexts; CIR also supports safe cosmetic use (ResearchGate)

CLINICAL PATCH TEST RESULTS
Finished-product testing by an independent laboratory

The laboratory concluded the sample "induced no reaction of irritation". Its own grading tables also record a highest single-subject grade of 1.00 (a light, hardly noticeable reaction) at the 48, 72 and 96-hour readings, and the 96-hour mean rose to 0.10, so the mean scores are published here exactly as reported rather than rounded away. The study covered one sample of product code SYCL 2 (development name for The Pipster) with no batch reference recorded, and patch testing under occlusion is a stress test, not everyday use.

MEAN DAILY IRRITATION SCORE

Average grade across all 30 subjects at each reading. 0 = no visible reaction, 3 = strongest reaction on the laboratory scale. "Water" is the negative control (deionised water); "SLS 0.3%" is the positive control the laboratory used to prove the test could detect irritation.

Mean Daily Irritation Score (MDIS) as published in the report
ReadingPULP sampleWaterSLS 0.3%
24 hours0.000.000.07
48 hours0.030.000.23
72 hours0.070.000.57
96 hours0.100.000.63

The laboratory's own grading table records a highest single-subject grade of 1.00 for the PULP sample. Statistical comparison in the report found reactions to the positive control significantly higher than to both the negative control and the PULP sample at the 5% level of significance.

MEAN IRRITATION INDEX

The four readings averaged together. Under the report's scale, below 0.30 is classed as not irritating.

How it was graded
Every reading was graded 0 to 3 for erythema, oedema, dryness/desquamation and vesicles by one qualified assessor, following European Society of Contact Dermatitis guidelines (July 2015).
The panel
30 healthy volunteers aged 18 - 69 (23 women, 7 men), recorded skin types: sensitive. 0 exclusions and 0 withdrawals, so 30 valid cases.

Results apply to the sample tested under the conditions described above. A patch test measures irritation potential under occlusion in 30 people; it is not a claim to treat, diagnose or prevent any condition, and individual reactions can still differ.
